| Shortly before 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, LCFC, Uwchlan Ambulance, and Minquas Ambulance were dispatched to the intersection of Pottstown Pike and Milford Road for an auto accident. The initial report indicated that a vehicle had struck a telephone pole, was on its side, and it was unknown if the occupant was injured. Within two minutes of dispatch, Upper Uwchlan Township Police arrived on the scene and confirmed that one person was trapped inside the vehicle. Engine 73-1 was the first fire apparatus to arrive and found an SUV against a telephone pole with the driver trapped inside. Crews also observed that the guide wires from the pole were in contact with high tension lines, causing electrical arcing. Engine 73-1 stabilized the vehicle and removed the windshield to give emergency medical personnel access to the victim. The team was able to free the trapped operator and remove the individual through the back hatch of the SUV. The operator was then turned over to EMS for further care. QRS 73 also responded and assisted with patient care, while Deputy 73 held the Pottstown Pike Command. While the crews were operating on-scene, fire police from LCFC closed Pottstown Pike between Milford and Font Road to allow crews to work safely. Eagle Service later removed the vehicle and the roadway was reopened approximately one hour and 15 minutes after the initial dispatch. |
