At 21:48 hours the Ludwigs Corner Fire Company along with Station 48 (Glenmoore) Tower 6 (West Whiteland) was dispatched to assist Station 47 (Lionville) for smoke in the building in the 700 block of Pennsylvania Drive. Chief 47 (Holmes) responded and was advised that there was a general fire alarm going on inside the building and that the building was being evacuated. Chief 73 (Guth) and Engine 73-2 with Lieutenant 73 (Markley) made the response. Chief 47 Arrived on scene reporting fire in one of the laboratories inside of the building. Engine 73 1 with captain 73 (Guth) and Rescue 73 with Deputy 73 (Hahn) made the response. Knowing that the fire was in a laboratory, Chief 47 requested a working fire dispatch which brought a Rapid Intervention Team from Station 46 (Minquas) and also requested a representative from the Chester County Haz-Mat Team.
Once on scene the Crew from Engine 73-2 was ordered to the second floor to check for extension. The crew cut a whole in the ceiling to check for any fire spread. Meanwhile the crew from Rescue 73 was assigned to firefighter decontamination. The crew from Engine 73-1 was assigned to manpower staging. Once the crews that were operating inside the building exited they had to go to decon as a precaution.
Once the situation was deemed under control command released Station 73. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Chester County Fire Marshalls Office.
